As we move forward to 2018, we take a look back at the latest technologies in packaging integrity and food safety brought by our partner HEUFT SYSTEMTECHNIK GMBH in the past year and showcased at Interpack 2017.

This year’s groundbreaking industry innovations at HEUFT focused on detection quality, complete in-line quality inspection of product, precise identification of foreign objects like metal and glass, verification of closure integrity, and tracking of product markings.

Metal Detection and Marking Inspection

A novelty in packaging was the introduction of metal detection and marking inspection technology. HEUFT showcased a very compact, easy to integrate and reliable to operate as a  stand-alone system, namely HEUFT ONE.

The system combines innovative detection technologies with customised hardware and software for product tracking, inspection and fault rejection. The solution works well in a confined space regarding detection accuracy, operational reliability and price/performance ratio.

Lowest Radiation Pulsed Technology

Pulsed X-ray technology offers the full spectrum for foreign object inspection, zooming on high-density contamination from small stones and metal to glass splinters.

The HEUFT eXaminer II XB top-down inspector is based on the HEUFT SPECTRUM II platform and uses less radiation than its predecessors. New full-field image converters increase the precision of the X-ray detection. It can reliably identify half the size of the object by keeping radiations levels low.

Foreign Object Detection for Cans and Jars

For glass in glass detection and other foreign object detection particularly in filled jars and cans, the highly automated HEUFT eXaminer II XAC benefits from increased range, speed and precision in its X-ray technology.

The innovation allows the system to detect reliably even minute fragments hidden behind the product at line speeds of up to 1,200 containers per minute.

Closure Inspection

The technology addressing all-around inspection of food container closures has also seen massive improvements. HEUFT announced a compact detection unit based on the same HEUFT SPECTRUM II technology for reliable detection.

The HEUFT FinalView II CAP identifies closure faults using innovative illumination, camera and real-time image processing technologies. It includes almost perceptible thread turns and defective tamper-evident rings of screw closures.

The system examines the closure walls and surfaces for minute cracks and damage, non-brand colouration, designs and logos, as well as incorrectly positioned and inaccurately aligned closures.

The closure inspection can be safely achieved at line speeds of up to 1,600 containers per minute. Also, the compact detection module can be easily connected to the HEUFT SPECTRUM II VX fill management system and other modular full container inspection systems.
