In the process of extrusion, modification of the die assembly is necessary for conventional systems upon each dimension change for the extruded pipe.

However, the QuickSwitch technology from KraussMaffei Berstorff enables in-line dimension change without interruption of the production process. A special pipe head is used, which is equipped with moving components in the melt outlet.

The technology allows the producer to change the pipe dimension at the touch of a button in mere minutes. The centrepiece of the system is the calibration basket with which the complete system can be set quickly to the desired pipe dimension in just one step.

The extrusion process benefits from continuity and high flexibility without the conventional modification of the die assembly. All time and material-intensive work procedures that are needed for a conventional dimension change are omitted. The only scrap for every dimension change is a short cone pipe.

Furthermore, all necessary downstream components are adapted to the QuickSwitch technology. The system is equipped with an “all-in-one control system” integrated into the overriding C6 system control unit, which enables better process control and integration as opposed to the previous separate control unit.

Other benefits of the QuickSwitch technology include important material, personnel and storage space economy and competitive advantage in the marketplace. The extrusion process becomes faster and more flexible, while the producers can fill orders of small lot sizes in a short delivery period.

Existing systems can be retrofitted with individual modules incrementally and cost-effectively at any time upon request.
