Material Drying

Drying of plastics enhances quality of molding.

Moisture content in plastics adversely affects the quality of molding. Excessive moisture in resins leads to products with unacceptable sturdiness, silver streaks, and holes. Dryers serve to remove moisture from resins to prevent defective products. Alternatively, they are also used to raise the temperature of the material and assist in plasticization during molding.

The TRR series of mixers is the ideal alternative to traditional turbomixers when production conditions require high levels of flexibility and involve a wide range of different products to be mixed with the same machine.
  • Mixing head and container hopper are divided in two distinct and separate parts, so cleaning times are reduced to a minimum.
  • Different configuration with same or independent speed of the blades or high power version.
  • Storage and transport of the mixtures is also facilitated by direct use of the same container.
When using PLAS MEC mixing and cooling equipment, it is possible to increase the bulk density of the components, extract the moisture of the wood fibers and distribute the additives.

  • The mixing process consists in feeding a batch of components of: Wood or natural fibers, PP, PE or PVC.
  • PLAS MEC, after intensive technical research and trials, has developed and designed two different mixing plants for the most common types of wood plastic composites COMBIWOOD HC and COMBIWOOD RV
Each industrial mixer of the range can be manufactured in small size for laboratory tests.
PLAS MEC laboratory mixers are supplied on its own or combined with the cooler.
  • The laboratory mixer TRL is suitable for PVC dry blend, powder coatings, masterbatch and pigments, thermoplastic rubbers, wood plastic composites and offers high reproducibility of the process environment on the production plants in order to provide essential data to improve productivity and quality.
  • TRL lab mixer is available from a minimum capacity of 5 liters to a maximum capacity of 100 liters.

Single-Phase, Three Phase and powder feeders

VLM single-phase feeders transport plastic granules to processing machines, dehumidification hoppers, and dosers with a suction capacity of 600 kg/h over 15 m. They feature an integrated suction unit and easy control via a microprocessor board and keypad. VLP powder feeders transport plastic powders, food, pharmaceutical, and chemical products, maintaining high hygiene standards. They handle particle sizes from 10 to 200 μm and bulk densities from 0.35 to 1.8 kg/dm³, with special filters for smaller sizes. A version for Matrix systems with an external PD vacuum pump is available. PD series suction units (1.1 to 15 kW) support pneumatic conveying up to 3000 kg/h over 150 m. LDM stainless steel receivers and LDX Pyrex glass receivers work with PD series three-phase feeders.

Centralized Systems Matrix

The Matrix2 control system allows management of up to 8 blowers and 56 receivers. It controls material decoding, bypass valves, and centralized filter cleaning. Additionally, it integrates the “MMS” system for managing the speed of the transported material. EasyMatrix is a compact solution for managing up to 10 receivers for small departments or multi-station dehumidification or dosing systems.

Volumetric and Gravimetric Feeders

The DM series volumetric feeders ensure automatic and precise dosing of masterbatches, additives, and regrinds. Their design, technology, and material quality provide high flexibility, making them suitable for injection presses, blow molding machines, and extruders.

The DG series gravimetric feeders also offer precise dosing of masterbatches and additives, with flexibility for use on injection molding machines, blow molders, and extruders. They come in two versions: a basic version with manual material loading and an advanced version with automatic loading via a Venturi feeder.

Gravimetric feeders play a crucial role in plastic processing, weighing and regulating component percentages during the transformation process. Nine basic models are available, configurable from 2 to 8 components, with fully automatic operation. A Siemens S7 PLC with touchscreen allows easy setting of dosing percentages.

Loss-in-weight and custom feeders

Vibrating channel feeders play a crucial role in plastic processing, weighing and regulating the exact percentage of each component during the transformation process. The DVM Series is designed for precise automatic dosing of masterbatches, additives, and plastic materials in granule and flake form for single-screw and twin-screw extrusion.

Our custom dosing systems, ideal for a wide range of materials from powders to granules, feature advanced components ensuring precision and reliability. Hoppers can be fed manually or automatically, with an integrated agitator to prevent bridging and maintain constant flow to the dosing screw.

A weighing system with load cells monitors weight in real time, with screw speed adjusted by an inverter to meet production needs. Managed by a Siemens PLC, the system controls up to eight dosing stations.

Side Gating

The tip gate including side gating is the most commonly used gating method. Acceptable for crystalline and amorphous materials, this gating method relies on gate diameter, gate area cooling, and temperature control at the tip to optimize the part quality. Tip gating or side gating leaves a small mark on the molded part surface (gate vestige)

 

The size of this mark is directly related to the gate geometry and material properties. The less notch sensitive the thermoplastic, or the larger the gate diameter, the more the vestige will protrude. For this reason, the gate is often sunk into a spherical depression (referred to as a ‘technical gate’) so that the mark does not protrude above the part surface. Tip gating is generally not suitable for shear-sensitive and highly filled materials due to the high temperature/high shear effects of the relatively small gate.

 

The Melt-Disk provides hot tip performance for edge gate applications. One of the distinct advantages of the Melt- Disk over an edge gate is that the cold slug is eliminated, allowing it to be used to gate thinner wall parts. The Melt-Disk offers direct gating with up to eight gates per nozzle in close proximity.

 

Melt-CUBE technology provides precise cavity-to-cavity balance, excellent vestige control, easy servicing, and low injection pressures for a variety of crystalline and amorphous side gating applications. The Melt-CUBE product is perfect for deep draw parts such as pipettes, syringe barrels, needle shields, or smaller parts where only side gating is permitted.
