Sikora CENTERWAVE 6000

In industrial extrusion and pipe manufacturing, quality assurance, material efficiency, and process optimisation are mission critical. The Sikora CENTERWAVE 6000 sets a new benchmark in in-line, non-contact dimensional measurement of plastic pipes making it an indispensable tool for extrusion lines serving infrastructure, utilities, and manufacturing sectors across Africa and beyond.

What Is the CENTERWAVE 6000?

The Sikora CENTERWAVE 6000 is an inline measurement system designed for the continuous assessment of key pipe parameters during production using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) millimetre-wave technology. Without touching the product or needing coupling media, it measures:
✔ Outer diameter
✔ Wall thickness
✔ Ovality (geometric roundness)
✔ Inner profile and minimum wall thickness
✔ Sagging and dimensional deviations over the full 360° circumference of a pipe in real-time.

Operating across extensive size ranges from Ø 32 mm to 1,600 mm (and more by request) the system delivers micron-level repeatability and precision without calibration or product-specific setup.

Why CENTREWAVE 6000 Stands Out

Non-Contact, Material-Independent Measurement

Unlike traditional gauges that require contact or calibration based on the pipe material, CENTERWAVE 6000 uses millimetre-wave reflection technology to extract dimensional data independent of temperature, coupling agents, or material refractive index even for multi-layer structures.

Full Circumference, Helix-Pattern Coverage

A continuously rotating transceiver measures the pipe in a helix pattern that ensures 100 % coverage of the product’s geometry. This eliminates blind spots and enables detection of micro-variations critical to high-performance applications.

Real-Time Feedback for Process Control

Immediate measurement outputs can be integrated with extrusion control logic to adjust line parameters on the fly, minimising scrap, enhancing quality consistency, and maximising material utilisation.

ROI and Productivity Boost

Advanced inline feedback, automatic centering, and material optimisation combine to reduce start-up scrap, lower material costs, and often yield a payback period of less than one year for high-volume producers.

Industries Served, Broad Applications for African Manufacturing

The CENTERWAVE 6000 serves multiple high-growth sectors where pipe quality and dimensional precision directly affect performance, safety, and compliance:

 Water Infrastructure & Municipal Utilities

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) pipes for potable water, sewer systems, irrigation, and stormwater networks require exact wall thickness and dimensional consistency to ensure leak-free operation and extended service life.

Oil & Gas, Mining & Industrial Fluids

Robust measurement of pipe geometry is essential for high-pressure applications in hydrocarbons, slurry transport, and chemical processing where failure risks carry high safety and environmental costs.

Construction & Civil Engineering

Corrugated pipes, multi-layer conduits, and structural pipe products used in building and civil projects demand precision to meet regulatory standards and performance expectations.

Electrical & Telecommunications Conduits

Conduit systems protecting fibre, power, and control cabling rely on pipes with consistent quality and geometry to prevent damage and ensure long-term reliability.

 General Manufacturing & OEM Components

Beyond pipelines, CENTERWAVE supports tube-based products for hydraulics, automotive assemblies, and industrial equipment wherever dimensional accuracy is critical.

What’s Needed for Implementation

  • You can install a CENTERWAVE 6000 on any pipe or tube extrusion line.
  • It is suitable for pipes from 32mm up to 1600mm
  • It is normally installed after the vacuum tank. This way it gives you as soon as possible on the line a complete view of how accurate your pipe is.
  • It can be installed without specific skills needed as it immediately shows you a cross section of the pipe so you can correct the pipe straight away.
  • When connected via Euro map interface with the extruder control you can automatically correct the pipe dimensions with Thermal Die centring.

Driving Quality and Competitive Advantage

As African manufacturing ecosystems continue to expand with infrastructure investments in water, energy, and construction accelerating demand for high-quality pipe products tools like the Sikora CENTERWAVE 6000 help producers differentiate through process precision, reduced waste, sustainable production practices, and accelerated throughput.
